As I sat there, traveling the board , getting myself a career, a husband, a house, children-I started wondering why the game was even called Life . It should've been called 'Unrealistic Goals and Ideas of Realities' or 'Don't Care about Relationships or Quality, I'm Just in it for the Money.' This game has nothing to do with life and I almost felt like I was committing a crime letting these children learn the subtle values that the game advocates.
So it starts off at the beginning with the choice between college and just starting your career. I love the subtle push towards college-the highest salaries need a degree. It’s sort of ironic-in this fantasy world doctors make more than athletes and entertainers-yeah, right, and college is a degree for your future.
You get the joy of marrying a little piece of plastic-whose sole existence seems to be riding shotgun and forcing the other players to give you gifts for this “happy” union. And children seem to exist for similar reasons-which I guess isn’t surprising considering that they’re products of a loveless, plastic marriage.
This isn’t an in depth analysis- that would be pages long and dull as anything, besides I didn’t end up playing that long because the game dissolved into a money chase between the kids I was playing with; a lot of running around and screaming that the money is ‘MINE’, ‘NO I’S MINE! I’M THE BANKER!‘
See this game has nothing to do with life! The name is an absolute misnomer-it’s all about money and who has the most. What a great message to give over to six year olds.
All in all, I think I’ll just stick with the cereal.
